Lifeline® Cell Technology

Lifeline develops and manufactures normal human primary cells together with selective, cell-type-optimised culture media. Based in Frederick, Maryland (USA), Lifeline was founded by scientists who helped introduce normal human cell systems and standardised culture media to research in 2001. These matched cell-and-medium systems remain a reference for reproducible primary cell culture.

CellSystems has been a distribution partner of Lifeline Cell Technology since 2007, supplying researchers with Lifeline’s normal human primary cells, optimised culture media and cell culture reagents. CellSystems is listed in Lifeline’s official international distributor directory. Lot-specific quality control documentation and certificates of analysis are available on request for every product we supply.

Lifeline supplies cryopreserved normal human primary cells across a broad range of cell types, including endothelial cells (e.g. HUVEC), epithelial cells, fibroblasts, keratinocytes, melanocytes, smooth muscle and skeletal muscle cells, haematopoietic cells, and mesenchymal as well as neural stem cells. Source tissues range from umbilical cord, skin and lung/airway to cardiac, adipose, bladder, kidney, breast and reproductive tissue. Every lot is quality tested against standardized criteria for viability, growth performance and sterility. Donor demographic information is available on request, so you can select cells by donor characteristics. All donor tissue is obtained under the highest ethical and legal standards and handled in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, the Human Tissue Act (UK), CFR Title 21 and HIPAA regulations. If you are starting out with primary cells, our Cell Culture Wiki covers methods, troubleshooting and best practices.

Every Lifeline cell system comes with a optimezed growth medium: VascuLife® for endothelial and vascular smooth muscle cells, DermaLife® for keratinocytes and melanocytes, FibroLife® for fibroblasts, BronchiaLife™ for airway epithelium, StemLife™ for mesenchymal stem cells – and further systems for epithelial, skeletal muscle and urothelial culture. Most formulations are serum-free or low-serum, with xeno-free and calcium-free variants for specialised applications. Media are supplied as basal medium plus matching LifeFactors® supplement kits, which keeps growth factor lots traceable and lets you adapt the formulation to your assay – or as ready-to-use complete media where convenience matters more.

For lineage work, Lifeline offers differentiation media matched to its stem and progenitor cell systems: AdipoLife™ for adipogenesis, ChondroLife™ for chondrogenesis, OsteoLife™ for osteogenesis, and air-liquid interface medium for mucociliary differentiation of airway epithelial cells. Combined with Lifeline’s staining kits (Alizarin Red, Alcian Blue and more) for endpoint verification, they form complete, protocol-ready differentiation workflows from expansion to readout.

The subculture and reagent range completes the workflow: TrypKit™, a  gentle subculture reagent kit, FrostaLife™ cryopreservation solution, attachment factors such as fibronectin and gelatine solutions and further supplements. Using Lifeline reagents with Lifeline cells and media keeps the culture system consistent and your results reproducible across lots and experiments.
