Human iPSC-Derived Astrocytes for Neuroscience Research and Disease Modeling

Human iPSC-derived astrocytes (iAstrocytes) provide a physiologically relevant in vitro model for studying central nervous system (CNS) biology, neuron–glia interactions, and the molecular mechanisms underlying neurological and neurodegenerative diseases. Generated from high-quality human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), these mature astrocytes closely resemble their in vivo counterparts and support a wide range of neuroscience applications.

Astrocytes are essential glial cells involved in synaptic support, neurotransmitter uptake and recycling, maintenance of ion homeostasis, blood–brain barrier function, neuroinflammation, and neuronal survival. Thorough characterization by robust expression of established astrocyte markers, including GFAP (Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein) and S100B, ensures high cell identity, purity, and experimental reproducibility.

A growing collection of healthy control and patient-derived iPSC-derived astrocytes enables the investigation of disease-specific phenotypes across multiple neurological disorders. These cellular models facilitate studies of astrocyte dysfunction, neurodegeneration, inflammatory signaling, and cell-type-specific disease mechanisms while supporting the development and validation of novel therapeutic strategies.

Human iPSC-derived astrocytes are ideally suited for neurodegenerative disease modeling, neuroinflammation research, neuron–astrocyte co-culture systems, neurotoxicity testing, drug discovery, target validation, and CNS disease research. Standardized production, rigorous quality control, and ready-to-use cell preparations support consistent experimental performance and reliable results across basic, translational, and pharmaceutical neuroscience research.
